Community discussion: Ghassan Kanafani's Returning to Haifa Returning to Haifa relates the emotions of a Palestinian couple returning to their home in Haifa, which they fled during the 1948 war that led to the creation of the state of Israel. It is a beautifully crafted and moving work of art that raises deeply troubling ethical issues. The discussion will be led by Therese Mughannam and Beverly Voloshin. The novella is in Kanafani's Returning to Haifa and Other Stories, which may be ordered online. Or, contact voloshin@sfsu.edu for a pdf copy of the novella if you don't want to order the book. People are encouraged to read the novella before the event. This community discussion is part of the "One Book, Many Communities" project of Librarians and Archivists with Palestine and is sponsored by the Petaluma Arts Center. This is a free event, but registration in advance is encouraged.
