The Festival Consort, celebrating its fortieth year performing renaissance music, will be presenting its much anticipated “Renaissance Glory” concert at the Petaluma Historical Library and Museum on Sunday, December 4 at 3 PM. Medieval and Renaissance songs, familiar traditional carols, a six-part Ave Maria by Josquin Desprez, variations on the familiar German song Nun komm der Heyden Heyland, and instrumental works by Victoria, Marenzio and Hassler. Carol Menke, soprano, Chris Fritzsche, countertenor, with instrumentalists David Hogan Smith, Joanna Bramel Young, Alan Paul and Robert Cronin playing recorders, crumhorns, schreyerpfeifen, guitar, sackbut, dougaine, shawms, and introducing a new set of alto and tenor renaissance bassoons (curtals). Robert Cronin built the shawms and curtals performed on the program.
